ADHD & Kids Yoga

Yoga for kids with ADHD/ Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Yoga is a natural and safe way for kids to manage their ADHD symptoms. These symptoms may vary from child to child and may include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity and kids may have challenges paying attention, completing tasks, and following instructions.

Concentration and focus is improved as kids focus their attention on their bodies, breath, and movements.

Anxiety is reduced as kids learn breathing and relaxation exercises and techniques to use anywhere anytime.

As kids move with gentle and more challenging poses, they start to notice how frustration makes their shoulders tense, excitement quickens their breath, or calm slows their heartbeat.

Overtime, this mind-body awareness leads to better self-regulation, helping with the control of and processing of difficult emotions as soon as they happen.

Deep breathing exercises along with yoga poses give children some control over their reactions, and as tension floats away this prevents further escalations and provides them with the tools to self-soothe in tense moments.

Learning how to understand and regulate their emotions is a crucial life lesson for kids that lays the foundation for healthy relationships, both with others and themselves.

Some of the teaching strategies that may be used by Turtle Yoga for Kids teachers to help improve concentration and focus include breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces, allowing for frequent breaks, incorporating visual aids and props, varying type and volume of music, and using various forms of positive reinforcement and rewards. Teachers may also modify poses for kids having difficulty with coordination, balance or attention.

Children absorb everything around them, including the emotions and energy of adults. If the adults (teachers/family members/friends) are stressed or unhappy, they will feel it too. Yoga is great for the whole family.

Studies are now recommending yoga for emotional release to reduce anxiety and kids yoga teachers are now working in early learning centres and schools to help students improve resilience, mood control, and self-regulation skills.

Turtle Yoga for kids helps improve focus, reduces anxiety, and promotes relaxation.
